Angiogenesis and vasculogenesis are two processes leading to new vessels formation that occur in both physiological and pathological conditions. Tumor growth and expansion is strictly dependent on new blood vessels formation and several molecules have been identified to act as proangiogenic factors.
In the last few years hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been proposed as the third gasotransmitter together with CO and NO. This gas is endogenously produced through different pathways and has several targets inside the cell, such as ion channels, kinases, transcription factors and others. Cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) is a hydrogen sulfide producer identified, among several tissues, in the cardiovascular system.
Since H2S has been recently proposed to exert a role in angiogenesis progression, we investigate the effects of hydrogen sulfide on a well-established model for tumor angiogenesis: endothelial cells (ECs) obtained from human breast carcinoma (BTEC), comparing its effects with a ‘nor ...
