Descrizione:
This work investigates the mitigation role that digitalisation had on the labour market during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The crisis affected working lives, especially in terms of income losses and workplace organization, with an expansion of teleworking. The analysis uses OLS methodology and is based on panel data composed of 28 European countries, from the first quarter of 2017 to the third quarter of 2020. The findings indicate a significant mitigation effect of digitalisation on the labour market. A higher level of digitalisation in selected countries leads to a lower deterioration of the labour market structure during the pandemic. Moreover, higher investments in digitalisation can improve the digital readiness of countries for a sudden shock such as the pandemic has been.
