This thesis builds on a corpus of data gathered during a fieldtrip to the P’urhepecha territory in Michoacán (Mexico), conducted in the summer of 2025. Its nature is fundamentally empirical, and the aim is to further deepen our understanding of human language through the investigation of lesser-known, indigenous languages, such as P’urhepecha (isolate, Mexico). The analysis presented here originates from the necessity to fill a gap in the status of research on sensory linguistics in P’urhepecha. Although the broad focus is on the perceptual domain of sound, the present inquiry represents an initial approach to a comprehensive investigation of the sound language in P’urhepecha (cf. Section 4). The study of sensory linguistics is crucial for our understanding of the relationship between language, culture, and cognition.
