Descrizione:
Despite annually adapted recommendations for travelers to malaria endemic destinations, France is the Western country with the highest number of imported malaria cases. The present study evaluates the consequences of partially reimbursing the cost of the three recommended drugs for malaria chemoprophylaxis (CP) to travelers heading to endemic regions in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), which is currently fully borne by travelers. This is done by performing a cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) from the perspective of the French National Health Insurance (NHI) of three strategies of 65% CP reimbursement, compared to the current strategy of non-reimbursement. The study concludes that reimbursing malaria CP would have a positive effect on malaria prevention in France, especially when it is targeted to groups of travelers at high risk for malaria. In this regard, results of the CEA constitute a further element that can be taken into account by policy makers when assessing the relevance of a similar ...

Moreover, analyzing ...
