Descrizione:
Despite pedunculate oak is one of the forest tree species most studied by forest geneticists, comprehensive and accurate investigations of the genetic layout of Q. robur populations in Italy are still missing. To our knowledge, only few studies have been carried out to date, but they were based on a limited number of populations, which scarcely cover the Italian distribution of the species, and on unsatisfyingly informative genetic markers (Fineschi et al. 2002; Petit et al. 2002a; Belletti et al. 2005). The present thesis represents, therefore, a first genetic characterization of most of the Italian Q. robur genetic resources, with a special focus on southern, marginal populations. In particular, the thesis aims at i) quantifying levels of genetic diversity, ii) estimating demographic parameters and searching for signatures of past bottlenecks, iii) assessing levels of among-population differentiation and deciphering the extant genetic structure of Q. robur in such an important multi- ...
