Previous studies showed that light quality affects the morphogenesis of microalgae, growth rate, and biosynthesis.
The active spectra of PAR can be efficiently utilized, and the photosynthetic efficiency of microalgae can be regulated to optimal levels by manipulating the spectral distribution and the intensity of light perceives microorganisms. There is a possibility that high production efficiency can be achieved while associated costs are reduced simultaneously by optimizing the artificial light quality. Therefore, it is important to study the effects of different light qualities in order to identify the most efficient ones.
Among artificial lighting systems, Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) allows to easy manage the main light qualities (PPFD and emission spectrum) and has the potential to be used in these studies.
