In patients with sepsis, the circulating and biologically active form of ADM may help identify patients with higher mortality risk and who need a high-intensity of care. Mainly, re-assessment of Adrenomedullin’s values at 72 hours after the access to the emergency room can provide important information about the patient’s clinical evolution and treatment effectiveness, with relatively better results than SOFA and MEWS. Despite strong scientific evidence support biomarkers’ use, these were not found useful in our study in predicting mortality. However, their maximum effectiveness was validated through serial dosages, which was missing in our project except for Adrenomedullin dosages.
The gender and the different comorbidities present in the sample do not seem to have influenced ADM values, except for chronic renal disease.
